Department
of Psychiatry & De-Addiction
Apart from the great
number of out-patients regularly treated at the Department of
Psychiatry, the VHS-Rajaji Centre for De-Addiction has 22
beds to treat alcoholics and drug addicts. The patients are admitted
for a minimum period of 2 to 3 weeks, during which they are weaned
away from alcohol and drugs, and their liver and cardiac status
assessed. The participation and support of their family members is
also insisted upon. Detoxification, counselling and psychological
(individual and family) assessments are significant aspects of the
treatment. Follow up is a very important and primary need for the
continued abstinence from alcohol and drugs.
