Department of
Neurosurgery
The
department of Neurosurgery has grown from a small department into a
postgraduate institute, setting standards both in clinical services
and academic research. It has its own operating theatres and
intensive care unit. The main thrust of the department’s work is
in the areas of complex cranial and spinal problems, spinal cord
injuries, and malignant glioma. The department has focused on 'Total
Microsurgery' as a concept. It has pioneered the conducting of
annual Microsurgery workshops with live surgical demonstrations.
The department boasts
of a library and museum on the history of neurosciences. Any student
can use the enviable collection of books, photographs and other
historical records in an
environment conducive to study and research.
The department is a
training centre in Neurosurgery recognised by the National Board of
Examinations, with its own residency programme.
